If the live online lesson is not an option because of scheduling,
or whatever, here's what we would do:
Here's how it works:
First of all, you need DSL or cable modem high speed internet service.
Dial up will not work.
You need a computer video camera mounted above your screen.
Or, a digital video camera (with firewire) mounted on a tripod. This
is best.
You would shoot a 2-5 minute video of you playing a routine, song, or
whatever, on your bass. The purpose would be so that I can evaluate
your technique level. You would transfer the video to your computer.
Then, upload the video to my private space on my website (via FTP). I
would download your video, view it. Then, I shoot a video segment,
making suggestions comments, and playing recommendations. I then,
upload the video. I send you an email when it is ready, and you
download the video using a user ID and password. Each lesson would
follow this type of routine. If at any point you had technical
difficulties shooting video, transferring to computer, etc., I would
walk you through until you are up to speed and on your own. It
actually is quite easy.
This method has been a very effective teaching tool. Students as
far away as Europe are able to learn bass, join bands, play out, make
money, funk out, have fun, and so on.
